Seven-time world champion Lewis Hamilton qualified last for the Las Vegas Grand Prix, describing the shocking result as a performance that “can’t get much worse than that.”
It marks the first time in his 19-year Formula 1 career that Hamilton has finished a qualifying session in last place on pure pace.
The struggling Ferrari driver blamed the wet conditions, a lack of tyre temperature, understeer, and a suspected glazed brake for his lack of speed, finishing over two seconds behind team-mate Charles Leclerc.
The result is another low point in a season Hamilton previously described as a “nightmare.” His final attempt to improve was also hindered by a late yellow flag.
“It’s obviously not good enough,” Hamilton said. “It can’t get much worse than that.”
Lando Norris claimed pole position for the race.
