Victoria Pearls have ended their two-match losing streak at the ongoing ICC Women’s Emerging Nations Trophy. They held their nerve on Sunday morning and beat Papua New Guinea by just four runs.
Captain Janet Mbabazi won the toss and elected to bowl, in what would be a day of wins for her as an individual. Mbabazi returned to her clinical self and hit 60 runs off 58 balls to shoot the Victoria Pearls to a total of 117 runs in the first innings.
Then in the second innings, with Uganda’s bowling defence holding on for dear life, she stepped up for the final over. PNG needed 13 runs to win but Mbabazi bowled a 2-4-W-1-1-0 spell to deny them.
