Season six of the Mwiri League began on November 22 with a large crowd and a refreshed atmosphere at its new venue, the IUEA Sports Ground in Kansanga.
The day combined regular season fixtures with a full Guinness Matchday On Tour setup, giving alumni live Premier League action on a giant screen along with several sponsor-led services, including a health camp and national ID registration.
The return drew hundreds of Busoga College Mwiri Old Boys, with different cohorts reuniting after the off season.
Old Boys President Daniel Mushabe praised the strong sense of togetherness, noting that the league continues to strengthen bonds within the community and create avenues for support beyond football.
Guinness, a long time supporter of alumni leagues, played a central role in the opening day experience. Brand Manager Denise Nazzinda said the event delivered the reconnection and energy the partnership aims to promote, with fans enjoying Premier League action on site rather than heading to other hangouts.
On the pitch, defending champions Suici FC started well with a 2 to 0 win over Destroyers. Top Layer matched that result against Blue Dollar before later drawing with Divers.
Makaya won both of their matches, beating Vuyos 2 to 0 and Shadow 4 to 0. Winter defeated Mpala 2 to 0 and Wampa edged Buliti 1 to 0 as the schedule offered a full mix of competitive games.
Entertainment ran throughout the day, capped by a night performance from Karole Kasita and steady hosting from MC Kats.
League Chairman Shadrack Olinga welcomed the strong opening, saying the event delivered on football, turnout, and partner engagement.
Matchday two is set for December 13 and will include a family themed outing aimed at bringing alumni and their families together for another packed day of football and community activity.
