Shamirah Nabadda has been appointed to the refereeing team for the 2025 Africa Cup of Nations in Morocco, becoming the only Ugandan official on a list of 73 selected by CAF.
The appointment adds another milestone to her rapid rise in African refereeing and follows a year in which she was voted CAF Female Referee of the Year.
Nabadda earned her FIFA badge in 2018 and has since built a strong record across major events.
Her recent assignments include the 2024 Paris Olympics, where she became the first female Ugandan referee to feature at the Games, as well as regular duty at WAFCON and several CAF youth tournaments.
CAF’s decision to include her in the AFCON 2025 team underlines the confidence she has earned on the continent.
It also gives Uganda rare representation in the tournament’s officiating ranks, offering a lift to young referees looking to break through.
