Amdavad, India, has officially been confirmed as the host city for the 2030 Commonwealth Games, marking a historic milestone that will anchor the celebration of a century of the Commonwealth Sports Movement.
The landmark decision was ratified by delegates representing 74 nations during the Commonwealth Sport General Assembly held this week in Glasgow.
India’s successful bid was unanimously accepted, positioning the 2030 Games to build upon the legacy of the previous Glasgow 2026 event.
The announcement was immediately followed by a vibrant and energetic cultural performance that showcased the rich traditions of Gujarat.
The assembly was treated to a spectacle featuring lively Garba dancers and powerful dhol drummers, underscoring the host city’s commitment to integrating its unique heritage into the global event.
Dr. Donald Rukare, President of Commonwealth Sport, captured the mood of the assembly with an optimistic outlook. “This is the start of a new golden era for Commonwealth Sport,” Dr. Rukare stated.
Echoing this sentiment of hope and connection, Dr. P.T. Usha highlighted the deeper purpose of the forthcoming event. She emphasized the Games’ significant potential “to unite communities and cultures from across the Commonwealth,” fostering global understanding and goodwill.
