Following the Super Eagles’ failure to qualify for the 2026 FIFA World Cup, the second consecutive missed tournament, former Nigeria and Chelsea star John Obi Mikel has declared his readiness to take a leadership role within the Nigeria Football Federation (NFF).
Mikel, a highly decorated national icon, did not mince words, insisting that his involvement is strictly conditional on transparency and the eradication of corruption within the NFF.
“I won’t have corruption tied to me… If you want us going forward, you must make sure things are done properly,” he stated.
The Super Eagles’ recent failures are mirrored by a systemic collapse in Nigeria’s age-grade football, with teams consistently missing major global tournaments.
Mikel has previously called for the entire NFF board to resign, arguing that administrative mismanagement and corruption are the root cause of the national team crisis.
