Uganda has named a 16 member squad for the Softball Senior Women’s World Cup Qualifiers and sent the team to Nairobi ahead of the tournament that will run from November 28 to 30 at Jomo Kenyatta University.
The travelling party includes 14 players and two officials.
The national team will face four opponents in a tight contest that offers only two places in the next phase of the global qualification pathway.
Uganda heads into the event with confidence after finishing third in the previous edition.
At the flag off ceremony held at Cooper Chimney in Lugogo, captain Lilian Nayiga said the squad is ready for the challenge and believes their recent form gives them a solid chance.
James Kasumba from the National Council of Sports urged the players to compete with purpose and pointed to the growing economic opportunities now available to Ugandan athletes who excel internationally.
