Uganda Rugby Union has announced changes to the schedule of the 2025 Uganda Cup semifinals. From each bracket of the knockouts being played on Saturday and Sunday to all on Saturday with the same kickoff times.
The Saturday fixtures at Kings Park in Wakiso district remain unchanged with Panthers and She Wolves in the early kickoff before the mouthwatering Stanbic Black Pirates vs KCB KOBs clash.
Rugby Uganda Cup Semis at Kings Park:
• 2 p.m. – (W): Panthers vs She Wolves
• 4 p.m.: – (M): Pirates vs KOBs
However, back in the capital Kampala, the fixtures will now be played a day earlier on Saturday. They will feature defending champions Nile Rapids and Platinum Credit Heathens.
Rugby Uganda Cup Semis at Kyadondo:
• 2 p.m. – (W): Avengers vs Nile Rapids
• 4 p.m.: – (M): Heathens vs Buffaloes
NBS Sport understands, from sources close to the union and the involved clubs, that there are two reasons for the changes.
In an email written to the union earlier this week, the clubs led by Heathens requested to switch to Saturday because their players had “exams starting on Monday” and needed more adequate time to prepare for them.
Additionally, a concern about fatigue going into the new week was cited.
The reality of life in Ugandan rugby is that people involved in the sport, especially players in this case, have school and work which butter their bread. Therefore, it is understandable they would want to get enough time to rest and recover from the games before embarking on those other priorities.
Unfortunately for the fans who had initially planned to watch both matches in person, they will have to choose from the two options — either Kings Park or Kyadondo.
