Lugazi Trekkers secured the first Mukono T20 Cup title after holding off Buvuma Sailors in a tight final at Florida Cricket Ground on Saturday.
The champions defended 150 for 8 and edged home by four runs in a contest that swung repeatedly before Innocent Akena closed it out with a decisive spell.
The Trekkers chose to bat and built their total through short, lively contributions. Jaffer Ochaya made 20 from 19, captain Amos Ahura added 19 from 10, and Titus Ssembuya steadied the middle overs with 34 off 26. Abdulshakur Doka chipped in with 24, although regular wickets prevented the innings from stretching out of reach.
Buvuma Sailors, who had beaten the Trekkers twice during the group stage, began their chase with confidence but soon lost shape. The response was carried almost entirely by Harsh Panchal.
His 84 from 51 balls, with six fours and seven sixes, kept the Sailors competitive even as partners fell around him. His dismissal in the penultimate over shifted the momentum for good.
Akena was central to that shift. He finished with four for 16 in four overs and broke key stands before they could settle. The Sailors closed on 146 for 8 and finished short despite threatening to snatch the game through Harsh’s innings.
Trekkers celebrated their first title while Buvuma were left to reflect on missed chances in the field and during the chase. Earlier in the day, Mukono Development beat Buikwe Gladiators by one run to finish third.
Individual awards went to Simon Ssesazi as best batter, Akena as best bowler, Kenneth Ogenrwot as youngest player, and Edwin Nuwagaba as player of the series.
