Aston Martin owner Lawrence Stroll has confirmed that former Red Bull boss Christian Horner will not be joining the Formula 1 team, telling employees the move was “not happening.”
Horner, who was sacked by Red Bull in July 2025, had been seeking a new role, but his appointment would have created friction with F1 design legend Adrian Newey.
The announcement comes as Aston Martin finalizes its new leadership.
Adrian Newey will become Team Principal from 2026, in addition to his technical partner role.
Current principal Andy Cowell moves to focus on the key relationship with new engine partner Honda and fuel suppliers.
Newey’s opposition was a key factor; his relationship with Horner had declined at Red Bull, and he was reportedly “upset” by the sexual harassment allegations against Horner (who was internally cleared twice) and perceived political infighting.
Horner is reportedly seeking an F1 return only in a position offering a shareholding and total authority over a team.
