The 2025 Uganda rugby calendar is now just one match week away from its climax.
It, having started on Saturday, January 11 in the Premiership (then known as Championship) with Stanbic Black Pirates entertaining Walukuba Barbarians and defending champions Platinum Credit Heathens hosting Warriors.
It will end on Saturday, December 6, with the Uganda Cup Final between Pirates and Heathens.
This fixture was confirmed after the semifinals at Kings Park and Kyadondo this past weekend.
Rugby Uganda Cup Men’s Semis Results:
• Stanbic Black Pirates 24-23 KCB KOBs
• Platinum Credit Heathens 22-13 Toyota Buffaloes
At Kyadondo, Heathens kept an arm’s distance from Buffaloes to win by 22-13 and reaffirm their control over their shared rugby club.
The first half was a back-and-forth contest of near misses in which Hussein Shein and Joseph Oyet exchanged a pair of penalties. Then Heathens sprinted away through Nicholas Kato and Michael Amollo’s tries (converted by Oyet) to lead 17-03 at halftime.
Buffaloes’ only sniffs at Heathens’ patch of grass in the try area were in the second half courtesy of Rodney Samuel Takan and Meddie Abdallah tries. They were separated by Oyet’s try which made it difficult for a successful comeback.
Meanwhile, at Kings Park, Pirates pulled off a breathtaking 24-23 comeback against KOBs to stay undefeated in this year’s campaign.
Thus, the 2025 Uganda Cup final will be between Pirates and Heathens. It will be a repeat of the 2022 final in Entebbe, which was decided in extra time. It will also be a contest between the current XVs champions – Pirates with the Premiership and Heathens with the Uganda Cup.
