Peninah Kabenge has handed over leadership of the Association of Uganda University Sports to incoming president George Wagoogo in a ceremony at the AUUS head office in Mengo.
The transition ends Kabenge’s long tenure, which began in 2002, and opens a new chapter for the university sports body.
Wagoogo said his first priority is delivering a smooth and well planned twentieth edition of the AUUS Games, set for 18 to 23 December at Uganda Christian University in Mukono.
He also underlined a commitment to broaden student participation and strengthen inclusivity across university competitions.
Kabenge used the occasion to reflect on her time in office and pointed to one project she was unable to complete, the establishment of permanent AUUS offices. She expressed optimism that the new administration will push the project forward.
Guest of honor Sammy Odongo, the Assistant Commissioner of Sports in the Ministry of Education and Sports, praised Kabenge’s contributions and urged the new leadership to follow through on its commitments while building on the structures left behind.
