Crystal Palace is grappling with uncertainty after contract talks with in-form striker Jean-Philippe Mateta stalled.
The France international, who has scored seven Premier League goals this season, is reportedly in no rush to sign an extension to his deal, which expires in June 2027.
Insiders suggest Mateta prefers to wait until after the upcoming World Cup to assess his options, especially with interest from clubs like Atalanta.
The contract deadlock coincides with manager Oliver Glasner’s public frustration over the club’s summer transfer activity.
Following the loss to Manchester United, Glasner criticized the club for missing chances to strengthen the squad:
“If you play European football for the first time in your history, you should invest and not save… We missed a couple of chances in July and August, in the transfer window.”
Glasner’s own future is also under a cloud, as the FA Cup-winning coach’s contract expires at the end of the season with no agreement yet in place for an extension.
