Yoane Wissa has officially been left out of the DR Congo squad for the upcoming Africa Cup of Nations (AFCON) due to his ongoing knee injury.
This is a major positive for Newcastle United and manager Eddie Howe.
Wissa, who has yet to debut after his September signing, is nearing full fitness and is expected to finally play for the Magpies in December.
His absence from the tournament means the $50 million forward can focus on his recovery and immediately integrate into the squad without an international break interruption.
Wissa took to social media to wish his teammates well, stating: “I’ll be the number one supporter!!”
Howe is keeping the exact debut date secret to avoid disappointment, stressing caution as he integrates the forward back into action.
