The African Cup of Nations (AFCON) Diaspora Tour arrived in Paris on Wednesday, unveiling the trophy near the Eiffel Tower to promote the upcoming tournament in Morocco.
Former Ivory Coast star Yaya Touré praised the organization and named Morocco, Senegal, and Egypt as the main title favorites.
Senegal defender Moussa Niakhaté called the AFCON a vital “test” ahead of Morocco co-hosting the 2030 FIFA World Cup, noting its importance for African football progress.
The 35th edition of the competition, which is the first to be held over the Christmas and New Year period, begins December 21st.
Hosts Morocco face Comoros in the opening match at Rabat’s 69,500-capacity Prince Moulay Abdellah Stadium, which will also host the final on January 18th.
