UTTA has opened the 2025 Uganda Open Doubles Championship today at Kabojja International, confirming that preparations were completed in time for the two day event.
The tournament runs today and tomorrow and features one of the largest entry lists in recent years, with more than 250 players competing across singles and team categories.
In a statement, UTTA said planning had “progressed smoothly” and thanked its sponsors Lakhani Motors Limited, SurePay Limited and Airtel Pay Uganda for supporting this year’s edition.
The championship includes men’s and women’s open singles, veterans, and the under 13 boys and girls categories, along with 11 ladies teams and 13 men’s teams.
The association also pointed to the progress of the Crossroads team, which has been training under an ITTF expert at Eli and is set to compete in the under 13 category.
International competition is strong, led by Kenyan players Brian Matuwa and Josiah Wandera, who are involved in both singles and team play. UTTA said their presence raises the level of the event and reflects positive momentum for the new executive.
Today’s schedule includes team event preliminaries and the opening knockout rounds in singles.
All quarterfinals and finals will be played tomorrow. UTTA also acknowledged the interest shown by several schools and thanked hosts Kabojja International for supporting and fielding teams.
The association said it expects a competitive and successful weekend as the Uganda Open gets underway.
