Uganda Athletics Federation has named a provisional squad for the 2026 World Cross Country Championships scheduled for January 10 in Tallahassee, Florida, as preparations intensify at the national residential camp.
The initial list is led by two time world champion Jacob Kiplimo, who returns to the Senior Men’s team with a clear target to defend his title. He is joined by Dan Kibet, who has already stated he wants to challenge the champion he considers his biggest influence, along with Keneth Kiprop, Deogracius Musobo, Dolphine Chelimo, and Emmanuel Kibet.
The U20 Men lineup features a group of emerging talents aiming for a breakthrough on the global stage. Abraham Cherotich, Jeremiah Kwemoi, Solomon Andiema, Daniel Kiprotich Chelogoi, and Dan Kipyeko form a youthful but competitive unit.
In the Senior Women’s category, Uganda has retained its frontline athletes. The team includes Sarah Chelangat, Joy Cheptoyek, Rebecca Chelangat, Martha Chemutai, Kereen Chemusto, and Rispa Cherop, all of whom have delivered strong performances in recent international events.
The U20 Women’s squad brings together some of the country’s fastest rising runners. Charity Cherop, Bentalin Yeko, Nancy Chepkwurui, Felister Chekwemoi, and Peace Chebet will aim to extend Uganda’s momentum in the junior races.
Uganda has also confirmed its Mixed Relay provisional four, naming Daniel Comboni, Silas Chemutai, Brenda Chekwemoi, and Sylvia Chelangat as the quartet expected to push for a competitive finish.
All athletes are currently in camp focusing on speed, endurance, and team coordination. The final squad will be confirmed after the group completes all training assessments successfully.
