Bafana Bafana are set to conclude their preparations on home soil for the upcoming Africa Cup of Nations (AFCON) by hosting long-time rivals Ghana next week in a crucial international friendly.
Coach Hugo Broos’ squad will face the West Africans in Gauteng on Tuesday, 16 December 2025, marking their final fixture in South Africa before departing for the continental showpiece in Morocco.
The specific venue for the clash is expected to be announced by the South African Football Association (SAFA) in the coming days.
The team’s departure for Morocco is scheduled for the day immediately following the Ghana friendly.
South Africa is heading to the main event, which will be held in Morocco from 21 December 2025 to January 2026. The tournament will feature 24 of the continent’s top teams battling across nine venues, with Côte d’Ivoire entering the competition as the defending champions.
Bafana Bafana have been drawn into a competitive Group B, where they will face:
-
Egypt
-
Angola
-
Zimbabwe
Broos’ charges will kick off their AFCON campaign against Angola on 22 December 2025, hoping to build momentum with a strong start in the group stage. The friendly against Ghana, though not an AFCON participant this year, is expected to provide a valuable test of character and readiness ahead of their Moroccan challenge.
