The Confederation of African Football and the Local Organising Committee (LOC) officially unveiled ‘ASSAD’ (or ‘ⵉⵣⵎ’ in Amazigh) as the Official Mascot for the TotalEnergies CAF Africa Cup of Nations (AFCON) Morocco 2025 on Monday, December 8, 2025.
Inspired by the Atlas lion, a powerful Moroccan national symbol, Assad’s name means “lion” in Arabic, embodying strength, pride, and cultural authenticity.
The friendly, youthful lion will serve as the tournament ambassador, playing a crucial role in engaging fans of all ages, particularly children and families, across stadiums and community events.
While supporting global marketing campaigns for the 2025 event, CAF noted that Assad is designed to be a long-term ambassador for African football.
He will continue to feature in CAF grassroots and youth development programmes after the tournament, aiming to inspire the next generation across the continent and deliver an unforgettable experience celebrating unity and pride.
