Deputy Speaker Thomas Tayebwa closed the opening round of golf at the East African Inter-Parliamentary Games with 31 points, describing the day as a tough test on a challenging course. Tayebwa played alongside Esther Muthoni, the Woman MP for Nairobi, and Gen Gier from South Sudan at Lake Victoria Serena Golf Resort in Kigo.
He said the conditions demanded precision, noting the strong winds, heavy bunkering, and several water hazards that shaped his performance. Tayebwa admitted he fell short of his target but remained satisfied with the overall experience.
He praised the strong turnout from Ugandan MPs and said he was equally impressed by the size of the Kenyan delegation. According to him, the number of Kenyan legislators who travelled to take part underscored the value that the region places on sports as a tool for partnership.
Tayebwa also spoke warmly about his round with Esther Muthoni, saying they spent time discussing shared national interests and ways Uganda and Kenya can continue to grow together. He described it as an honour to walk the course with her and appreciated the exchange of ideas during the round.
Beyond the competition, Tayebwa highlighted the benefits of golf itself. He called it a healthy and rewarding sport, noting that it builds discipline, sharpens mental focus, and promotes fitness through long walks. He encouraged more Ugandans to take up the game.
He closed by thanking NBS Sport for broadcasting the East African Inter Parliamentary Games live and for its continued role in promoting sport across the country.
