Members of the East African Legislative Assembly (EALA) have expressed optimism over the rapid growth of sports in the region during Day Four of the ongoing Inter-Parliamentary Games in Kampala.
Lawmakers commended their governments for investing in sports development and supporting emerging talent, signalling a bright future for East African athletics.
EALA member Machano Ali singled out Tanzania’s achievements in football, noting the country’s rise alongside Uganda’s.
“Right now, Tanzania is doing so well in football, just like Uganda. However, we are looking forward to improving in areas like athletics so that we can develop more stars,” he said.
Hon. David Ole emphasised that sports should serve as a unifying force across the region.
Highlighting Kenya’s continued dominance in athletics, he remarked, “I don’t believe in boundaries. When Kenya wins medals in athletics, the victory belongs to all of East Africa.”
Day Four of the Games saw fierce contests in basketball and volleyball at MTN Arena Lugogo, while golf action took place at Serena Kigo under the leadership of Uganda’s Deputy Speaker Thomas Tayebwa.
The Games, broadcast live on NBS Sport and AfroMobile, will continue tomorrow with netball and volleyball as the region gears up for the grand finale.
