Action at the East African Inter Parliamentary Games shifted to Kigo today as lawmakers teed off in the opening round of golf at Lake Victoria Serena Golf Resort.
The competition marks the start of a three round schedule, with the first round today, the second round set for Thursday, and the third and final round on Saturday.
The draw placed players in ten minute intervals beginning at 10 in the morning.
The first group featured Tumwesigye Josephat, Kanini Kega, and Solange. They were followed by Natukunda Medius, Passaris Esther, and Gen Gier at 10:10. The field also includes Okin PP, Tandaza Sawa, Murango Kamau, Kateshumba Dickson, Ikana Fred, Mule Caleb, Mutinda Tabitha, and several other MPs representing different East African legislatures.
The format of play for the tournament is stableford, a scoring system that rewards aggressive but smart golf.
Instead of counting total strokes, players earn points on each hole based on their score against par.
More points are awarded for better results, such as a birdie or par, while poor holes carry less penalty compared to traditional stroke play.
The system encourages players to take calculated risks without fear of completely ruining their overall score with one bad hole.
With strong representation from across the region, the golf event continues to build momentum within the wider games calendar.
The leaderboard will take shape after today’s opening round, setting up a competitive run into Thursday and Saturday.
