Nottingham Forest striker Taiwo Awoniyi has called on Nigerians to give their full support to the Super Eagles at the 2025 Africa Cup of Nations (AFCON) in Morocco, despite his own exclusion from the final squad.
Speaking on Channels TV, the 28-year-old stressed that selection decisions must be respected, stating, “It is always a great list no matter the player that gets on the list… the whole country just needs to support the boys.”
Awoniyi’s omission is partly due to injury concerns, which will also keep him out of Nottingham Forest’s upcoming match against Tottenham.
He remains optimistic about Forest’s form, noting the challenges of balancing domestic and European football.
Nigeria, coached by Eric Chelle, is in Group C alongside Tunisia, Uganda, and Tanzania, and will open their campaign against Tanzania on December 23.
