Goalkeeper Luca Zidane, the 27-year-old son of Zinedine Zidane, has been named to the Algeria squad for the 2025 Africa Cup of Nations (AFCON), starting December 21 in Morocco.
Zidane, who plays for Spanish side Granada, recently switched allegiance from France and debuted for Algeria two months ago. He joins Oussama Benbot and Anthony Mandrea as the Desert Foxes’ goalkeepers.
Coach Vladimir Petkovic stated the main goal is to advance past the first round in Group E, where Algeria faces Sudan (Dec 24), Burkina Faso, and Equatorial Guinea.
In other news, Senegal coach Pape Thiaw named six Premier League players in his squad, including Idrissa Gueye (Everton) and Pape Matar Sarr (Tottenham).
Thiaw declared, “We are among the favourites and we accept that. I want a dominant team.” Senegal will compete in Group D.
