Uganda’s female Members of Parliament emerged as the standout performers at the 15th edition of the East African Community Inter-Parliamentary Games, outperforming their male counterparts as the tournament reached its climax at Lugogo Arena.
The final day of competition saw Rwanda defeat hosts Uganda 3 2 in a tightly contested volleyball match, securing second place behind overall winners Kenya.
Despite the defeat, Uganda is set to retain the overall championship title, which will be confirmed during the official closing ceremony scheduled for Tuesday.
Attention has largely shifted to the performance of Uganda’s women legislators, who were widely praised for their consistency and discipline across the games.
Honourable Aogon Silas of Kumi Municipality attributed the difference between the men’s and women’s teams to preparation, saying the women were better prepared for the competition.
Volleyball head coach Raffi Bachu echoed that view, noting that the women’s strong showing was driven by the attention they give to the game and their ability to follow instructions.
The tournament will formally conclude on December 16 at the Parliament of Uganda, where trophies and medals will be awarded to participating countries in recognition of their achievements.
Delegations are expected to depart for their respective countries on Wednesday, December 17.
