The 2025 Hamz Cup will conclude on Friday, 19 December, with Kafumbe 1 set to face Arrows in the final under the floodlights at Nakivubo Stadium, as preparations for the second edition of the tournament are completed.
The champions will walk away with Shs50m from a total prize pool of Shs100m. Earlier on the day, Pentagon and Kafumbe 2 will contest the third place playoff. The runners up will earn Shs25m, the third placed team Shs15m, and the fourth placed side Shs10m.
Hamz Cup coordinator Hakim Kasirye said organisers are ready for a high quality finale after a tournament that attracted strong participation from across the city.
“We are fully prepared for the final scheduled for this Friday. This year, 40 teams participated in the tournament, which is fully sponsored by Hajji Hamis Kiggundu. Apart from rewarding the top teams, we shall also recognize the side that attracts the highest number of fans, as well as give individual awards to outstanding players. This competition has created opportunities for many youths to feature in the Topflight and Big League divisions,” Kasirye said.
The 2025 edition attracted over 40 teams drawn from markets, taxi parks, and arcades around the city, reflecting the tournament’s continued growth and appeal at community level. In addition to team prizes, individual awards will also be handed out to standout performers.
Last year’s tournament featured teams representing different blocks of Hamz’s Arcades across Kampala, with Block G crowned champions. In the inaugural edition, the total prize money stood at Shs50m, with the winners taking home Shs20m. The increase to Shs100m this year underlines the competition’s expanding profile and ambition.
