Brighton midfielder Carlos Baleba has arrived in Casablanca for the Africa Cup of Nations (AFCON), hoping the tournament will reignite his season.
Despite a “below-par” first half of the campaign with the Seagulls, the 21-year-old remains focused on his goal of becoming the world’s best midfielder.
Baleba admitted that self-imposed pressure and a “stressful period” have affected his consistency, but he is determined to use the international stage to find his rhythm.
Baleba acknowledged his form has dipped since last season, culminating in a difficult game against Liverpool last Saturday.
Despite heavy speculation linking him to Manchester United, he is expected to remain with Brighton until at least the summer.
Fabian Hurzeler backed the youngster, stating: “We hope he gains self-confidence and comes back stronger.”
Cameroon kicks off their campaign against Gabon on Christmas Eve, followed by high-stakes matches against holders Ivory Coast and Mozambique.
