Rogers Mato’s European ascent continues at pace, and FK Vardar have acted decisively to keep control of the momentum.
The Ugandan forward has committed his future to the North Macedonian heavyweights by signing a contract extension that now runs until December 2026, pushing back the expiry of his previous deal by six months.
The revised contract includes a release clause of €800,000, a clear statement of intent from Vardar. The figure comfortably exceeds Mato’s current €500,000 valuation on Transfermarkt and reflects how highly the club rate his importance, as well as their expectation that interest from elsewhere will only intensify if his current form continues.
That confidence is well founded. Mato has been devastating in front of goal this season, producing 15 goals and two assists in just 17 appearances. It is a dramatic leap from the previous campaign, where he registered six goals in 16 games, and it underlines not only improved numbers but a player growing into leadership and consistency in the attacking line.
His journey to this point has been anything but accidental. After making his name with KCCA FC in Uganda, Mato took the European route through Brera Strumica, a move that helped him adapt to the demands of the continent’s football.
Since arriving at Vardar, each season has added another layer to his game, with this campaign marking his most complete and explosive yet.
The striker’s club performances have also carried over to the international stage. Mato is part of Uganda’s squad for the 2025 Africa Cup of Nations in Morocco, where expectations are rising that he can be a central figure for the Cranes as they look to compete with confidence against Africa’s elite.
With a new contract secured, a significant release clause in place, and his goal tally soaring, Rogers Mato is entering a defining phase of his career.
For now, FK Vardar have ensured that any club hoping to prise him away will have to meet a price that matches his rapidly growing reputation.
