Florida Gators center Olivier Rioux made history on Wednesday, becoming the tallest player to ever score a field goal in college basketball.
The 7ft 9in (2.36m) Canadian teenager punctuated the Gators’ 102-61 win over Saint Francis with a late-game dunk.
The 19-year-old, who was certified as the world’s tallest teenager by Guinness World Records in 2021, had already set the record for the tallest player to appear in a college game last month.
Rioux’s stature dwarfs current NBA stars; he stands five inches taller than Victor Wembanyama (7ft 4in) and two inches taller than the NBA’s all-time record holders, Manute Bol and Gheorghe Mureșan.
While still a developing prospect, Rioux’s historic basket marks a towering milestone in NCAA history.
