The MTN Busoga Cycling Championship will return for its third edition on Saturday, December 20, 2025, with five days of qualifying races spread across all eleven chiefdoms of Busoga Kingdom.
The event was officially unveiled on Thursday in Bugembe, Jinja City, by the Busoga Kingdom Minister for Sports, Owek. Amin Bbosa Nkono, with MTN Uganda confirmed as the title sponsor.
The championship will feature cyclists competing in two categories, Tippa also known as Gaali Ensoga and Mountain Sports Bikes. Riders will battle through preliminary races in their respective chiefdoms for a place at the grand finale scheduled for Saturday, January 3, 2026.
Qualifying action will begin on Saturday in Buhna and Bunhole Bunanhumba before moving to Kigulu and Bukooli on Sunday. The races continue on Monday in Luuka and Bulamogi, followed by Butembe and Bugabula on Tuesday. The final qualification races will be held on Wednesday, December 24, in Bukono, Busiki and Bugweri.
All preliminary races will be run over a standard distance of 50 kilometres. At each stage, the top three riders in both categories will qualify for the grand finale, producing six finalists per chiefdom at the championship climax.
The competition offers incentives at both levels. Cyclists who excel in the preliminary rounds will earn cash prizes, while the grand finale will carry bigger rewards, including a brand new motorcycle for the overall winner in each category and cash prizes for the top five finishers.
Defending champions Luganda Tiffu of Bukooli in the Tippa category and Odoto John of Kigulu in the Mountain Sports Bike class are expected to attract attention as Busoga prepares for another edition of a championship that continues to grow in profile and competitiveness.
