Makerere University Business School has flagged off a 100 member contingent for the 20th Association of Uganda University Sports Games, with Principal Prof. Moses Muhwezi urging students to use sport as a platform for national recognition and international progression.
Speaking during the flag off ceremony, Prof. Muhwezi told the athletes drawn from 12 MUBS teams to manage their time wisely and embrace sport as more than competition, stressing its role in shaping careers beyond the classroom.
The AUUS Games tipped off on Saturday and will run until December 23 at Uganda Christian University in Mukono District, bringing together universities from across the country for five days of competition.
The championship will feature football, rugby, basketball, swimming, athletics, table tennis, badminton, netball and volleyball, among other disciplines, with MUBS aiming to make a strong impression across the board.
Prof. Muhwezi said sport plays a critical role in developing leadership, discipline and teamwork among young people, qualities he described as essential for success both on and off the field.
He also revealed that MUBS plans to introduce sports management courses, a move aimed at professionalising the sports industry while creating new academic and career pathways for students with an interest in sport.
