Mohamed Salah has cleared the air in the Liverpool dressing room, apologizing to his teammates for a public outburst against manager Arne Slot before departing for the Africa Cup of Nations (AFCON).
The tension began when Slot benched the Golden Boot winner for three straight games following heavy losses to Nottingham Forest and PSV.
Salah sparked controversy on December 6 at Elland Road, where he suggested his relationship with Slot had broken down and hinted at a January exit.
Midfielder Curtis Jones revealed that Salah addressed the squad to ensure there were no lingering tensions. “He apologized to us and was like, ‘If I’ve affected anybody or made you feel any sort of way, I apologize,’” Jones told Sky Sports. “He had a big smile on his face, and everybody was exactly the same with him.”
Jones defended the Egyptian’s reaction as a product of his winning mentality: “If a lad’s fine to just be on the bench… then I think that’s more of an issue.”
The apology follows a brief cooling period where Salah returned to the pitch to assist Hugo Ekitike in a 2-0 win over Brighton.
While Salah could be away with Egypt until January 18, the gesture suggests a temporary truce has been reached at Anfield as the club enters the January transfer window.
