Kylian Mbappé celebrated his 27th birthday by equaling Cristiano Ronaldo’s record of 59 goals in a calendar year for Real Madrid during a 2-0 victory over Sevilla.
Jude Bellingham broke the deadlock in the 38th minute, heading home a cross from Rodrygo.
Sevilla’s hopes faded in the 68th minute when Marcao was sent off for a second bookable offense.
Mbappé secured the win with an 86th-minute penalty after Rodrygo was fouled. He marked the milestone by performing Ronaldo’s iconic “Siu” celebration.
While Mbappé took 59 games to hit the mark (compared to Ronaldo’s 50 games in 2013), the Frenchman’s career stats at age 27 are staggering.
He now boasts 586 goal contributions, far surpassing Ronaldo’s 378 at the same age.
“To do like Cristiano did, my idol… it’s an honor,” Mbappé said. The win keeps Real Madrid within striking distance of La Liga leaders Barcelona.
