Mengo League won the MTN Inter-Alumni Futsal League title on Saturday, December 13, edging KOSA League 7–6 on penalties after a 1–1 draw in regulation time to secure a fully paid trip to Morocco to support the Uganda Cranes.
The final, played under MTN Uganda’s “Gaga Your Way to Morocco” campaign, was tight and tense throughout. Both sides showed caution and physical intensity, with neither able to find a decisive breakthrough before the shootout. Mengo held their nerve from the spot to clinch the title, triggering celebrations among the Mengo SS Old Boys.
The match went ahead after a pre kick off protest from KOSA officials over the alleged use of ineligible players by Mengo League. The matter was reviewed and cleared, allowing the final to proceed without further disruption.
Mengo’s victory completed a strong run through the knockout stage. They had reached the final by overcoming Sharks League with a disciplined performance built on defensive organisation and composure. KOSA, meanwhile, had looked dominant earlier, sweeping past Kasoba League 5–0 in the semi finals.
After the final whistle, a Mengo League team member reflected on the turnaround against familiar opponents.
“We lost to KOSA earlier, but thanks be to God that on the final day we beat them,” she said. “It was a comeback and now we are travelling to Morocco. You will see us on the front line supporting, wearing our jerseys because we love our nation.”
Another player highlighted the sacrifices behind the campaign.
“That is why we have been playing through pain, believing that we could make it there to support the team,” he said. “The dream has come true. I am going to board a plane all the way to Morocco.”
Individual honours went to Paul Kakeeto, who finished as the tournament’s top scorer and underlined the attacking quality on show across the competition.
The Inter-Alumni Futsal League is part of MTN Uganda’s wider “Gaga Your Way to Morocco” initiative, which links grassroots football and alumni rivalries with support for the national team. With the Uganda Cranes set to face Tunisia on December 23 at the Prince Moulay Abdellah Stadium, Mengo League’s win delivered exactly what the campaign set out to create. A direct pathway from local competition to a major international football moment.
