Senegal opened their AFCON 2025 campaign with a dominant 3-0 victory over Botswana on Tuesday, fueled by a brace from Nicolas Jackson.
Despite a standout performance from Botswana goalkeeper Goitseone Phoko, who kept the “Lions of Teranga” at bay for much of the first half, the deadlock was broken in the 40th minute.
Jackson converted a low cross from Ismail Jakobs to give Senegal the lead.
The West African giants doubled their advantage near the hour mark when Jackson finished a clinical pass from Ismaila Sarr.
Substitute Cherif Ndiaye added a third late in the match, tapping home a cross from Cheikh Sabaly to seal the points.
The win puts Senegal at the top of Group D, ahead of their high-stakes clash with DR Congo this Saturday.
Group D Standings (Top 2):
• Senegal: 3 Pts (+3 GD)
• DR Congo: 3 Pts (+1 GD)
