Oscar Ntambi has upgraded to a Mitsubishi Lancer Evolution X ahead of the 2026 rally season, replacing his mechanically troubled Subaru Impreza N10 in a move he hopes will finally unlock consistency at the top level of Ugandan rallying.
The new car was acquired with financial backing from KCB Bank, alongside Ntambi’s personal savings and contributions from well wishers. KCB Bank has also confirmed it will continue sponsoring Ntambi through the 2026 season, pointing to his assertive driving style and steady rise through the National Rally Championship rankings.
Ntambi’s switch comes after two difficult seasons in the NRC, where persistent mechanical failures undermined his performances following his move into the top tier. While pace was rarely in question, reliability issues repeatedly denied him strong finishes and stalled his championship ambitions.
He is set to debut the Mitsubishi Evo X at the FMU Championship of Champions Sprint on Boxing Day at Extreme Adventure Park in Busiika. Ntambi says the event will serve as a critical test ahead of a full scale title push next year, using the sprint to fine tune the car and build confidence in competitive conditions.
His intentions for 2026 are clear. Ntambi has openly talked up his ambitions, declaring “war” on his rivals and insisting he does not plan to let any car finish ahead of him in his new machine.
The upgrade places Ntambi firmly within a growing trend among Ugandan rally drivers preparing for the 2026 calendar by moving into more powerful machinery. Hassan Alwi is set to campaign a Ford Fiesta Proto, Umar Dauda has also opted for a Mitsubishi Evo X, while Samuel Watendwa is preparing a Toyota RunX, signaling what many expect to be an increasingly competitive and technical season.
