British heavyweight boxer Anthony Joshua has survived a fatal car accident on the Lagos-Ibadan Expressway that left two people dead.
The crash occurred Monday morning near the Sagamu Interchange as Joshua was traveling to his ancestral family home.
According to the Federal Road Safety Corps (FRSC), the Lexus SUV carrying Joshua was suspected of speeding while overtaking when it collided with a stationary truck.
Joshua sustained minor injuries and was taken to a local hospital; officials describe him as “fine.”
Five men were in the vehicle; two died, while two others escaped unhurt.
The accident comes just days after Joshua’s December 19 victory over Jake Paul in Miami.
The 36-year-old former champion, who is a sports ambassador for Ogun State, frequently visits Nigeria during the festive season. Local police have ordered a full investigation into the cause of the collision.
