The Denver Nuggets are awaiting MRI results after three-time MVP Nikola Jokic suffered a serious knee injury during Monday’s 147-123 loss to the Miami Heat.
The injury occurred late in the first half when teammate Spencer Jones accidentally stepped on Jokic’s foot, causing the superstar center to collapse.
Jokic, who had already recorded 21 points and eight assists before exiting, is the current NBA leader in rebounds and assists.
Nuggets head coach David Adelman described the incident as “gut-wrenching,” noting that Jokic knew immediately that the injury was significant.
“We’re concerned about him as a person,” Adelman said. “We’ll find out more tomorrow.”
The 30-year-old is scheduled for an MRI on Tuesday to determine the severity of the damage.
