Aston Villa climbed to second in the Premier League with a 3-1 victory over Nottingham Forest at Villa Park, extending their home winning streak to 11 matches.
Ollie Watkins celebrated his 250th club appearance by opening the scoring in first-half stoppage time, firing home from 20 yards. Captain John McGinn doubled the lead shortly after the break, finishing a pass from Matty Cash.
Though Morgan Gibbs-White pulled one back for the visitors in the 61st minute, a goalkeeping error by Forest’s John Victor allowed McGinn to seal the win.
The keeper was caught out of his goal, leaving McGinn to lob the ball into an empty net from 35 yards.
The result leaves Villa 12 points clear of fifth-place Chelsea, while Forest suffer their fourth consecutive defeat.
Sean Dyche’s side remains 17th, just four points above the drop zone, ahead of a crucial Tuesday clash against West Ham.
