South Africa head coach Hugo Broos has called on his players to look toward the 2026 World Cup after their 2-1 defeat to Cameroon in the AFCON Round of 16 on Sunday.
Goals from Cameroon’s Junior Tchamadeu and Christian Kofane put Bafana Bafana in a two-goal hole.
Although Evidence Makgopa narrowed the gap in the 88th minute, South Africa could not find a late equalizer during stoppage time at the Stade Al Barid.
“We need to be ready for the World Cup,” Broos stated, emphasizing that the team must evaluate their performance quickly. “We are not going backwards, but we do have to make a good evaluation of what happened here.”
The Indomitable Lions face hosts Morocco in the quarter-finals on January 9.
South Africa turns its attention to its first World Cup appearance since 2010, kicking off against co-hosts Mexico on June 11.
