Novak Djokovic has announced his complete withdrawal from the Professional Tennis Players Association (PTPA), the breakaway union he co-founded in 2021.
The 24-time Grand Slam champion cited “ongoing concerns regarding transparency, governance, and the way my voice and image have been represented” as the reasons for his exit.
Despite co-founding the group with Vasek Pospisil to give players an independent voice, Djokovic stated that his values are no longer aligned with the organization’s current direction.
The split follows a major legal action launched by the PTPA in March 2025 against the ATP and WTA, alleging anti-competitive practices and poor player welfare. Djokovic admitted he did not agree with the entirety of that lawsuit.
While the PTPA continues its legal battle alongside players like Nick Kyrgios, the loss of its most influential figurehead marks a significant blow to the union’s standing in the sport.
Djokovic, 38, says he will now focus on his family and his final chapters on the court.
