West Nile secured a place in the quarterfinals of the FUFA Drum after emerging as the only winning side on Match-Day Five, as the other three fixtures across the weekend ended in draws.
Playing at Mbale Municipal Stadium on Saturday, West Nile produced a controlled display to beat Bugisu 2-0 and claim the three points they needed to advance. Goals from Sadat Anaku and Moses Ocoman sealed the win and left Bugisu still winless and without a point in Group A. The victory lifted West Nile to six points, enough to see them join Acholi in the last eight.
In Group D, Kampala Province picked up their first point of the tournament with a 1-1 draw away to Tooro. Eric Tumwine gave the hosts the lead, but Tekakwo James equalised to earn Kampala a share of the spoils. The result was enough to send Tooro through to the quarterfinals on six points, while Kampala remain bottom of the group with one point.
Sunday’s matches followed a similar pattern. In Group B, Buganda and defending champions Lango played out a 1-1 draw. Emmanuel Oketch put Lango ahead in the 25th minute, but George Kaddu continued his fine form by scoring for the second game in a row to level matters for Buganda just before halftime. Buganda now have six points, with Lango close behind on five.
The Group C clash between Busoga and Bunyoro also ended 1-1. Dickson Matama struck early in the 15th minute to give Busoga the lead, but Agondeza later equalised for Bunyoro. The draw moved Busoga to five points, while Bunyoro climbed to four, keeping the group tightly contested heading into the final round.
