Nairobi United have signed Ugandan left-back Mustapha Kizza from NEC FC, continuing their aggressive recruitment in the mid-season transfer window.
The FKF Premier League debutants had been strongly linked with the 26-year-old over the past two months and moved to complete the deal after his standout performances against them in the CAF Confederation Cup preliminary round.
Kizza arrived in Nairobi on Monday, January 5, and underwent medical tests at a city hotel under the supervision of the club’s medical team and newly appointed strength and conditioning coach Kevin Kimani. The signing adds further depth to a squad backed by Nairobi Governor Johnson Sakaja as the club targets a title push and a strong continental campaign.
Born in 1999, Kizza rose to prominence at Kampala Capital City Authority, where he joined in 2017 and made more than 70 appearances across three seasons, scoring 11 goals. His form earned him a move to CF Montreal in July 2020, where he played alongside former Harambee Stars captain Victor Wanyama until the end of the 2021 season.
After leaving Canada, Kizza signed for Portuguese top-flight side FC Arouca in July 2022 before returning to Uganda in September 2024 with Express FC. That spell was short-lived, followed by a brief stint at Telecom Egypt SC, which he left citing unprofessional conduct and unmet contractual obligations.
He returned home in July 2025 to join NEC FC and quickly made an impact, including against Nairobi United in continental competition. That display prompted the Kenyan side to pursue his signature.
At Nairobi United, Kizza will compete for the left back position with Harambee Stars defender Kevin Otiende.
