Team Uganda is already in Tallahassee, Florida, completing final preparations one day out from the World Athletics Cross Country Championships scheduled for Saturday, January 10.
The squad features a balanced mix of experience and emerging talent across the senior, Under 20 and mixed relay events as Uganda targets another strong showing on the world stage.
Leading the team is Jacob Kiplimo, who returns to defend his senior men’s title and pursue a rare hat trick after back to back victories at the championships in Bathurst in 2023 and Belgrade in 2024. Kiplimo remains Uganda’s biggest medal hope as he lines up against a deep international field.
The senior women’s team blends proven performers with rising stars. Sarah Chelangat, who finished fifth at the last championships in Belgrade, anchors the squad alongside Rebecca Chelangat as Uganda looks to challenge for top positions.
Racing begins with the mixed relay at 9:45 a.m. ET, which is 5:45 p.m. EAT. The Under 20 women’s race follows at 10:20 a.m. ET, 6:20 p.m. EAT, before the Under 20 men’s race at 10:55 a.m. ET, 6:55 p.m. EAT.
The senior women’s race is scheduled for 11:35 a.m. ET, 7:35 p.m. EAT, with the championships concluding with the senior men’s race at 12:20 p.m. ET, 8:20 p.m. EAT, before the medal ceremony brings the event to a close.
