Uganda Athletics has shifted its focus to the World Athletics Indoor Championships following a strong showing at the 2026 World Athletics Cross Country Championships, with preparations now turning to the global indoor event scheduled for March 20 to 22 in Toruń, Poland.
Speaking after the cross country campaign, Uganda Athletics president Dominic Otucet said the federation is now looking ahead to the indoor championships as another major opportunity for Ugandan athletes to measure themselves against the world’s best.
He noted that the recent cross country success has provided momentum and confidence as attention turns to the next international assignment.
Uganda will be targeting an improved outing compared to the previous World Indoor Championships held in Nanjing, China, in 2025. On that occasion, the country was represented by only two middle distance runners, Tom Dradriga and Halima Nakaayi.
Dradriga delivered a solid performance in Nanjing, finishing sixth in the men’s 800 metres final. Nakaayi, however, exited the competition at the heats stage after placing fifth in her race, missing out on a semifinal spot despite arriving with high expectations.
With lessons drawn from the last indoor championships and encouragement from recent cross country results, Uganda Athletics is aiming for a stronger and broader showing in Toruń as it continues its push for consistent presence and impact on the global stage.
