The Uganda Cricket Association has added regional trials to its 2026 calendar as part of an expanded programme aimed at strengthening the sport nationwide. The calendar, released this week, outlines a busy year of national and international competitions alongside new development initiatives.

Building on what the association described as a successful 2025 season, UCA says the 2026 calendar is designed to deepen structures across all levels of the game. The introduction of regional trials for both men and women, scheduled to begin in February, is a central feature of the new plan and is intended to widen the national talent pool.

Speaking after the release, Edgar Kazibwe, the People, Culture and Communications Lead at the Uganda Cricket Association, said the calendar reflects a deliberate push to grow the sport beyond established centres.

“What is unique about this calendar is the introduction of regional trials for both men and women. This will help us identify talent from all corners of the country and groom more players to represent Uganda at both national and international levels,” Kazibwe said.

National team assistant coach Ogwang Jackson welcomed the development, pointing to long standing challenges around preparation and player identification. “This is exactly what we have been lacking as a team. The calendar will help us structure and prepare on time, and I’m confident that with this setup, we shall have a very successful year,” Ogwang said.

Players have also backed the new direction, linking the expanded calendar to bigger competitive ambitions. “Our target is not only to conquer Africa but also to win big on the global stage. With this calendar, as team leaders, we are determined to compete with the best and raise the Ugandan flag high,” said Fred Achelam.

With regional trials, structured planning, and an increased focus on development, the Uganda Cricket Association enters 2026 positioning the sport for growth at home and stronger results on the continental and global stage.
