Aston Villa have reached a deal to re-sign midfielder Douglas Luiz on loan, just 18 months after selling him to Juventus for £42.5m.
The 27-year-old is set to cut short his current loan at Nottingham Forest to return to Villa Park before Monday’s deadline.
Despite interest from Chelsea, the Brazil international reportedly preferred a move back to the club where he previously made 204 appearances.
Unai Emery moved for Luiz following season-ending injuries to Boubacar Kamara and a two-month layoff for captain John McGinn.
Currently third in the Premier League and four points off the top, Villa are bolstering their squad for a serious title push.
Villa are also expected to imminently announce the £18m signing of striker Tammy Abraham from Besiktas.
Luiz’s return provides much-needed familiarity and grit to a midfield depleted by injuries as Villa prepare for the Premier League run-in and the Europa League last 16.
