The fourth edition of the Discovery Uganda Run gets underway on Friday, January 30, with Kapchorwa once again at the centre of Uganda’s athletics calendar.
The two day event opens with trail races for senior men and women before climaxing on January 31, 2026, with the main Discovery Uganda Run and school races for Under 12 and Under 15 boys and girls. All competitions will be held at the Kapchorwa Boma Grounds.
Founded by world champion Jacob Kiplimo, the Discovery Uganda Run was created as a grassroots platform to identify, nurture, and develop young athletics talent from the Sebei region, long regarded as a pipeline for elite distance runners.
The 2026 edition has drawn increased backing, with sponsorship from NIKE and Rosa Management in partnership with Uganda Athletics. The event is powered by Chicago Marathon champion Jacob Kiplimo and continues to grow in profile on the regional and international stage.
Athletes will compete for a total cash prize of Shs25 million. Trail race winners from first to third place will be rewarded, while senior road race competitors will earn prizes from first to seventh position. Junior runners will also be recognised, with awards going to the top five finishers in each category.
Officials from different parts of the world have already arrived in the Sebei sub region ahead of the event, underlining the Discovery Uganda Run’s rising status as a key fixture in the country’s athletics calendar.
