Aston Villa secured automatic qualification for the Europa League Round of 16 after a comeback victory over Red Bull Salzburg.
Despite an early error by Tyrone Mings, the defender redeemed himself with an equalizer as Villa clinched second place in the league phase, finishing just behind Lyon.
While Villa head straight to the last 16, two other British clubs kept their European dreams alive:
• Nottingham Forest: Thrashed Ferencvaros 4-0 to finish 13th.
• Celtic: Stormed to a 4-2 win over Utrecht, securing 21st place.
Both clubs enter the knockout play-offs in February. Meanwhile, Rangers ended their disappointing campaign with a 3-1 loss at Porto, marking their sixth straight away defeat in Europe.
The final night saw Porto and Roma snatch the final automatic top-eight spots. Heartbreak struck Young Boys, who were eliminated by a 90th-minute Stuttgart winner, while RB Salzburg and Feyenoord also crashed out.
