Senegal head coach Pape Thiaw has urged fans to stop fundraising for him after he was slapped with a massive $100,000 (USD) fine and a five-match ban by CAF.
The penalties follow the chaotic 2025 AFCON final against Morocco, where Thiaw briefly ordered his players off the pitch in protest of a late penalty decision.
Despite the turmoil, Senegal secured their second title with a 1–0 win in extra time.
In a Thursday Instagram post, Thiaw thanked the public for their “deeply touching” solidarity but made his stance clear.
“I humbly ask you not to organize fundraising campaigns in my name… I urge you to redirect these funds to more urgent causes for the benefit of those who truly need them.”
The suspension means the 44-year-old coach will miss the start of the 2027 AFCON qualifiers this March.
